Other Local Animal Help Groups We are the only Oswego County organization that has as its primary goal the establishment of county wide animal welfare and sheltering facilities. But we are not alone in our efforts to improve the lives of animals. Here is a list of other private organizations that provide a range of animal welfare services. They may be able to help you with your animal welfare concerns and they certainly need and deserve your support. Oswego County Humane Society OCHScontact@hotmail.com Oswego County Animal Welfare League OCAWL was incorporated in 1972 as a (501)c3 non-profit organization. Its mission is multi-faceted, including a low-cost spay/neuter program, dog and cat rescues, and, when funds allow, emergency medical assistance. OCAWL maintains several foster homes and operates an aggressive adoption program. All dogs and cats are tested, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered as part of the adoption process. In addition, a trained cruelty investigator working with OCAWL volunteers his time to look into all reported complaints of suspected abuse or neglect in Oswego County. OCAWL also feeds and manages a large feral cat colony in Mexico, NY. The Oswego County Animal Welfare League is funded solely through the generosity of its supporters. A quarterly newsletter and several annual fundraisers constitute the chief means of procuring monies for the continuation of ongoing projects. For more information, to volunteer in any way, or to make a donation, write to OCAWL at P.O. Box 4, Oswego, NY 13126. Paws Across Oswego County PAOC is a non-profit organization recently organized to assist local shelters with donations and voluntary services. Its mission is to promote responsible pet ownership through education and special programs, assist the local community and animal shelters in the spaying and neutering of companion animals. Among its goals are to provide humane education and owner responsibility classes, 100% pre-adoption spaying and neutering, low cost spay/neuter clinics, and controlled breeding ordinances. Pet Food Pantry The Pet Food Pantry is operated by LAPS, Inc. a non-profit organization in Mexico, New York. It enables senior citizens to keep their beloved companion animals by providing and delivering dog and cat food as a supplement to the Meals on Wheels program. Already more than 300 dogs and cats, (and one bird), benefit from this program. LAPS is also interested in developing a mobile spay/neuter program. Donations of dog and cat food and cash assistance are always welcome. For more information call Mary Phillips at (315) 963-4146. Donations can be mailed to LAPS at P.O.
